Proxy for Elections AGM 2013
If you, as a voting member, are unable to attend the AGM we encourage participation in the election process by forwarding the attached "Proxy" to a fellow member who will be attending. Nominations will be accepted up until the actual election of officers at the AGM on March 6, 2013.
If you plan to nominate someone for office that is not in attendance at the AGM, you should contact and let them know you plan to nominate them and that they will need to inform the Branch Secretary of their intention to let their name stand for election.

Call for Interest Committees
The Nova Scotia/PEI CIPHI Branch Executive has been working hard on the Development of a strategic plan for the Branch. One goal of the plan is the development of a number of working Committees within the Branch. These committees will not only improve Communication but provide many opportunities for the membership. The branch encourages all members to review the attached Call for Interest document and volunteer!
AGM
The Branch will be holding our AGM on March 6, 2013 12:30-2:30 PM at The Marriott Harbourfront Hotel, located at 1919 Upper Water St., Halifax, NS.
Election of officers will be held at the AGM. In preparation for the election, the Nominations Committee is requesting expressions of interest from members for the following positions:
•Treasurer – offering Jason Catoul
•Webmaster – offering Vanessa Nickelo
•Councillor- Southern - offering Alan McMullin
•Councillor- Western – re-offering Stephen Ferguson
•Councillor- Cape Breton – offering Rodney Lahey
•Councillor- PEI – re-offering Ryan Neale
Please email Wanda Timmons, Branch Secretary, at timmonwd@gov.ns.ca to express your interest. Deadline for expressions of interest is Feb 6, 2013 at 4:30 PM.
Once the nominations are finalized a proxy form with the names of nominees will be sent out to all members. Directions on returning the proxy will be available on the form.
We encourage all members to get involved in the Branch. If you would like to get involved in the branch in another capacity please contact your local councillor.
National Educational Conference Award
The NEC Award is presented annually by the Nova Scotia/Prince Edward Island Branch of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors to a member of the association who has made a significant contribution to the association, the field of public/environmental health and the community, while displaying the highest standards of professional performance.
Criteria for consideration include:
A. Significant contribution to the advancement of the association, the field of public/
environmental health and community.
B. Promotion of the professional standards of the Canadian Institute of Public Health
Inspectors.
C. Exemplary leadership in dealing with a critical issue affecting public health or
environmental health

Department of Health & Wellness Hosting a Health Protection Conference
The Department of Health & Wellness will be hosting a Health Protection Conference on March 5, 6 and 7, 2013. The conference will focus on health protection aspects of public health, including Communicable Disease Prevention and Control, Environmental
Public Health and their linkages within the broader public health system. The conference theme, “Back to the Future: Moving Forward with Wisdom from the Past”, will offer participants insight into legislative aspects of health protection, reflection on current public health practice in health protection and a vision for what that may look like in the future.

This is the official site of the Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island Branch of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI). CIPHI is the professional association that represents Public Health Inspectors and Environmental Health Officers across Canada.
There are currently 50 regular and 5 retired members in our branch. Included in these numbers are 10 lifetime, affiliate, and student members in the NS/PEI chapter.
Student membership is a great chance for students to become involved in their future public health careers. For retired members, they may find they have additional opportunity to participate in CIPHI activites. Find out more about all memberships available on the side link.
