On October 26th, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care released the *Proposed Amendments to Regulations made under the Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA).*
Of urgent concern is page 7 which states:
Reg. 566 – Qualifications of Boards of Health Staff
Changes would provide Boards of Health with autonomy with respect to hiring staff with the proper qualifications and include updated requirements.
Proposed changes include:*
· Remove existing public health professional qualifications requirements for business administrators, public health inspectors, public health dentists, dental hygienists and public health nutritionist; and
· Replace the reference to fellowship in community medicine with public health and preventive medicine.
I submitted a letter on the weekend and I strongly urge you to review the following link and if you oppose, voice your concern by leaving a comment to suggest the Government of Ontario oposes the proposed amendment, the deadline to comment is today. If you have any questions or would like clarification please let me know.
The option to leave a comment is at the bottom of the page on the link.
